Outline: This
initiative aims to improve student learning
outcomes in the Key Learning Area of
English with a specific focus on text types.
Online stage activities will be developed
to align with the small school HSIE scope and sequence.
Students will complete the activities and email them to stage
coordinators who will provide feedback to teachers and
students against predetermined criteria. Quality pieces of
work will be posted on the web for all students to view,
thereby increasing student peer groups and
opportunities to share work. Teacher support and links to
resources will also be provided via the website.

Outline: This
initiative uses the CAP Online Research Modules as
a basis for exploring literacy through an author
study. The initiative builds on the purpose of the
units by having a chosen author visit in
conjunction with a small school camp. The
initiative is then extended into using technology
to enhance literacy through using appropriate text
types and electronic communication to develop a
newsletter form the camp. The culmination of
the initiative is a camp which uses multimedia to
record the school's literacy / technology
journey.

An overarching initiative
resulting from the state CAP Quality Improvement
Pilot Project. This initiative is applying for
funds to support a learning team from each
participating school to attend Quality in Schools
training in NSW in 2003 .Each school team has made
commitment to attend pre and post workshops.
Schools have also submitted a proposed action plan
for implementation after the Quality Learning
Seminar

Outline: The
three small schools involved in this initiative
wish to maximize student learning by incorporating
higher order thinking concepts into teaching and
learning in the classroom. This will involve the
learning team attending an initial workshop to
increase understanding of higher order thinking and
planning strategies for the classroom (run by CAP
consultants). Staff will also be attending the
Quality Learning Seminar and will also incorporate
these processes and tools into teaching and
learning.

Outline: Boys
education has been identified as an area of need in
these two communities. The two schools wish to use
the PDSA cycle to ensure a quality process is
followed and that all strategies employed will be
relevant. Staff will be involved in attending
conferences in order to obtain information on the
latest practices in boysí education.
Effective strategies will then be used in the
classroom to enhance teaching. Awareness raising
and training will be offered to parent and
community members. The culmination of the project
will be a boys camp and an evaluation of the
overall effectiveness of the initiative.

in a small school situation. This will involve
staff and community reps from each school taking an
area of assessment and reporting to investigate,
trial and report back to the other schools. A
policy appropriate to small schools will then be
developed and undergo a full trial by each school.

Outline: Teaching
and Learning as a Team aims to enhance teamwork by
all (staff, students, parent / community) at Nyngan
PS through program which promotes acceptance,
respect and valuing of individual differences. The
HBDI profile is used as the basis for the initial
workshop and is followed up y workshops develop
specifically for teaming, communication, leadership
and teaching and learning. Students and teachers
are then introduced to de Bono's 6 thinking
hats as a formalized approach to thinking.
Cooperative learning and leadership strategies are
also included in the initiative.

initiative aims to embed quality processes into all

this the school would like to provide some time for
exec to work with their faculty members as a follow
up to Langford Quality learning Seminar and to
support teachers in the implementation of these
strategies, have a focus on stage 4 (year 7&8)
to cater for different learning styles, and to
develop links with Glenn Waverly Secondary College,
a recognised leader in quality teaching and
learning practices.

connections aims to give teachers and parents a
greater understanding of thinking preferences and
how this impacts on learning. The HBDI profile is
used as the basis of the first workshop. A
presenter from Learning Connections will then work
with participants to delve deeper into
understanding the brain and how appropriate
strategies can be applied in the classroom to
'switch on the
brain' and enhance
learning. The initial focus will be on strategies
to support literacy and numeracy.

PS has undergone considerable changes in staffing
over the last two years, after a relative stable
period. The school is organized in stages and stage
teachers work closely as a team. This initiative
uses the HBDI model of thinking preferences to
enhance understanding of self, others and how to
work better together. The executive team also wish
to use the TMI profile to look more closely at
teams in a specific working environment. A
series of follow up workshops is proposed to
address issues in communication, teaching and
learning, preferences for students and leadership.
A more specific program for students is proposed
based on cooperative learning strategies
